What is an acne facial, and how is it different from a regular facial?
A regular facial is usually about relaxation and a fresh glow. An acne facial has a more specific job: it focuses on congested pores, excess oil and the blackheads and whiteheads that home care alone can struggle to shift.
On melanin-rich skin, how this is done matters. Rough scrubbing or squeezing spots at home can irritate the skin, and irritation on darker skin often leaves a dark mark behind long after the pimple has gone. A professional acne facial is designed to clear congestion gently and carefully, so the skin is not left angry and inflamed afterwards.
What happens during the Clear Skin Protocol Facial
Every visit starts with a look at your skin and a conversation about what you have been using. Then the facial follows four main stages:
- Gentle exfoliation to lift dull surface cells, so the skin is ready for the next steps.
- Steam to soften the skin and help prepare congested pores.
- Professional extractions of suitable blackheads and whiteheads, done with care to protect melanin-rich skin from unnecessary irritation.
- A hydrating sheet mask to finish, helping the skin feel calm, comfortable and balanced.
You leave with advice on what to use at home, because what you do between visits matters as much as the facial itself.
Who is an acne facial suitable for?
The Clear Skin Protocol Facial is designed for:
- Oily or combination skin that looks shiny and congested
- Acne-prone or breakout-prone skin with blackheads, whiteheads and pimples
- Pores that look clogged or enlarged
- Anyone who wants professional help alongside a simple home routine
It may not be the right first step for everyone. If your skin is very sensitive, if you have painful, deep or widespread breakouts, or if you are using prescription skin treatments, please mention this when you book. We will confirm at consultation whether this facial suits you or whether another option is a better fit.
Acne facial or salicylic peel: which one do you need?
Both are offered at our med spa for oily, acne-prone skin, but they work differently.
- Clear Skin Protocol Facial (GH₵500): a hands-on facial with exfoliation, steam, extractions and a hydrating mask. A good choice when congestion, blackheads and whiteheads are your main concern.
- Salicylic Peel (GH₵600): a professional peel for oily and acne-prone skin, congested-looking pores, uneven texture and post-acne marks, usually with little visible peeling. It is performed by our trained aesthetician, following Dr Kathryn's clinical protocol.
You do not need to decide alone. Tell us about your skin when you book, and we will suggest which option suits you at your consultation.

What to expect after your acne facial
- Some temporary redness where extractions were done is common, especially on oily, congested skin.
- Avoid picking or squeezing any spots afterwards, as this can lead to new dark marks.
- Keep your routine gentle for a few days and follow the aftercare advice you are given at your visit.
- Use sun protection during the day.
- Acne-prone skin can still break out after a facial. A facial supports clearer-looking skin, but it works best alongside daily care at home. Results vary from person to person.
How to look after acne-prone skin between facials
A facial gives your skin a fresh start. Your home routine is what keeps it going. For most people with oily or acne-prone skin, a simple routine works better than a crowded shelf of products.
From Dr Kathryn: The clients I see do best are rarely the ones using the most products. They are the ones who use a simple routine every day and protect their skin from the sun.
A simple daily routine for acne-prone skin
- Cleanse twice a day. Our Clarifying Cleanser (GH₵45) is a sulfate-free, pH-balanced everyday face wash with 2% salicylic acid for normal, combination, oily and acne-prone skin. It helps deep-clean pores and clear excess oil, gently exfoliates for smoother, brighter-looking skin, and helps manage pimples, whiteheads and blackheads. It is suitable for everyone in the family aged 13 and over, but it is not recommended for sensitive skin. If your skin stings, burns or reacts easily, book a consultation first.
- Target individual pimples. Siri Cream (GH₵40) contains 5% micronised benzoyl peroxide, which helps reduce acne-causing bacteria and works as a targeted spot treatment. Let it dry before it touches towels or pillowcases, as benzoyl peroxide can bleach fabrics.
- Protect your skin from the sun every day. Sun exposure can make post-acne marks look darker.
- Hands off. Leave extractions to the professionals.

FAQ: acne facial in Accra
Does an acne facial help with pimples?
An acne facial helps clear congested pores and may help improve the appearance of blackheads, whiteheads and breakout-prone skin. It works best alongside a consistent home routine. Results vary from person to person.
Are extractions safe for dark skin?
When done carefully by a trained professional, extractions are a routine part of an acne facial. The bigger risk for melanin-rich skin is squeezing spots at home, which can irritate the skin and leave dark marks.
How much does an acne facial cost in Accra?
The Clear Skin Protocol Facial at our doctor-led med spa in Labone costs GH₵500 per session.
Can I get an acne facial if I have very sensitive skin?
Please tell us when you book. Very sensitive or reactive skin needs a proper assessment first, so we can confirm whether this facial suits you or suggest a gentler option.
Will a facial get rid of acne for good?
No facial can promise that. Acne-prone skin needs ongoing care, and breakouts can return. A facial supports clearer-looking skin, and a simple daily routine helps you keep that progress.
